Playa Colorada Afro & Latin House Set — Live from Samaná
Some beaches you drive to. Playa Colorada you have to earn — a trail past Las Galeras or a boat from the pier, and then a cove that most of the island has never stood on.
Playa Colorada sits on the wild tip of the Samaná peninsula, one stop on the hidden seven-beach trail that threads the coast beyond Las Galeras. The name is the description: the sand here runs red-gold — no es dorada, es colorada, as they say locally — a mineral blush you don’t see anywhere else on the island. A reef closes off the little bay and keeps the water calm and glass-clear, palms lean out over the shore break, and there is nothing else: no bar, no loungers, no road. Just the cove, the decks, and the sea.
The shape of this one
The Barahona and Playa Rincón sessions were afro house front to back. This one travels. It opens with a hands-in-the-air vocal house classic — Bob Sinclar’s “World, Hold On” rolling out over red sand — then works its way south: Latin house percussion, Spanish hooks, a Brazilian detour, the grooves getting deeper and more tribal as the set goes on.
And then the closer, which is the whole reason this set exists: my own afro house remix of Juan Luis Guerra’s “Bilirrubina.” A Dominican classic, rebuilt with deep bass and tribal drums, played back to the island it came from — on a beach only Dominicans could have named. That remix is coming to SoundCloud as a standalone release.

About Playa Colorada
Playa Colorada is one of the seven virgin coves strung along the coastline northwest of Las Galeras, reachable on foot in under an hour on the trail that also passes Cueva Duarte — a cave still holding Taíno pictographs — or in about fifteen minutes by boat from the Las Galeras pier. Its neighbors are the beaches that made Samaná famous: Playa Rincón around the headland, Playa Frontón and Playa Madama further along the point. The reef that shelters the bay makes it one of the calmest swimming spots on this stretch of coast — and one of the quietest, because there are no services at all. Bring water, take your trash, leave the cove the way you found it.
Every set starts with the sea. This one just took a boat ride to reach it.
