Live from Barahona: Full Afro House Set + Tracklist
Some places you play. Barahona is a place that plays back.
This set was filmed on the coastline of Barahona, on the Dominican Republic’s far south coast — the side of the island most visitors never see. No resorts stacked along the sand, no beach vendors, no crowd. Just the green mountains dropping straight into the Caribbean, the sound of water on stone, and a table with two decks facing the sea.
Why Barahona
Everything I make starts with the sea. I grew up absorbing everything — Gipsy Kings and Amr Diab in my mother’s kitchen, 2Pac and Dr. Dre in my headphones — but the thread that ties it all together, the thing I keep chasing in every track, is that feeling of standing at the edge of the water. Afro house gave that feeling a language: organic textures, tribal percussion, basslines that move like a tide.
So when it came time to film a full set, I didn’t want a studio or a rooftop. I wanted the rawest coastline on the island. Barahona is where the Dominican Republic stops performing for tourists and just is — mountains, sea, and a road that winds between them. We drove out with the equipment, set up as the light started to turn, and recorded the whole arc in one take: deep and oceanic at the open, tribal and percussive by the close.

The location, for the curious
Barahona sits about three hours southwest of Santo Domingo, past sugar-cane country, where the Sierra de Bahoruco meets the Caribbean. The beaches here are stone and dark sand, the water shifts between deep blue and jade, and the coast road is one of the most beautiful drives in the country. It’s not built for mass tourism — which is exactly why it sounds the way it does in this recording. If the Dominican Republic has a wilder twin of the postcard coastline, it’s here.
The ocean taught me how to feel the rhythm. Barahona is where I go to remember that.
