Playa Rincón Afro House Set — Live from Samaná

There are beaches you visit, and there are beaches that reset your idea of what a beach is. Playa Rincón is the second kind.

Tucked into the Samaná peninsula on the Dominican Republic’s northeast coast, Playa Rincón is a long arc of white sand backed by coconut palms and framed by green headlands — the kind of place that gets named on “most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean” lists and still somehow feels like a secret when you’re standing on it. That’s where this set was filmed: decks in the sand, palms at my back, the whole bay stretched out in front of the booth.

The shape of this one

Every set I film outdoors gets shaped by the location, and Playa Rincón asked for something brighter than the Barahona session. Where the south coast is stone and shadow and deep blues, Samaná is all light — white sand, turquoise shallows, wind in the palms. So the set opens warmer and more melodic, rides longer grooves through the middle, and saves the heavy tribal percussion for the back stretch, when the light starts to drop and the whole bay turns gold.

About Playa Rincón

Getting there is part of the story: Playa Rincón sits at the end of a winding road out of Las Galeras, and plenty of people arrive by boat instead. There’s no resort strip — just a few fish shacks grilling the day’s catch, fresh coconuts, and nearly three kilometers of sand. Samaná itself is the Dominican Republic’s green peninsula, better known for humpback whales and waterfalls than nightlife — which made it the perfect counterpoint for an afro house set: pure nature, deep rhythm, nothing else competing for attention.

Where the ocean meets the rhythm — this is the beach I picture when I say it.
